5th January 2008 - Son's Life Saved! |
"He was choking on a sweet and his lips had gone blue. The sweet must have been wedged in his windpipe..." "I tried backslaps first, then carried out abdominal thrusts as I had been taught on the course. Thankfully, the sweet shot out of his mouth." Marian from Woodstock Primary School is pictured here
practising abdominal thrusts on Aquafield's Choking Manikin. |
19th December 2007- Proud Sponsors of Community First Responders |
We are proud to sponsor and support the work of Ashby Community First Responders. Ashby Community First Responders (CFR) are a group of volunteers based in the Ashby de la Zouch area, trained to provide immediate care to patients before the arrival of an ambulance. Responders are trained to provide Basic Life Support and defibrillation to patients in Cardiac Arrest and to administer oxygen for a range of conditions. Ashby CFR responds to emergency calls through the 999 system in conjunction with the East Midlands Ambulance Service. First Responders are based within the community. They can attend the scene of an emergency in a very short time of the emergency call being made, often within the first 3 or 4 minutes. The First Responders can then begin vital life saving first aid before the Ambulance arrives, further increasing the patient's chance of survival. Volunteers receive no payment or expenses for the work they
do. All equipment, including defibrillator, oxygen kit, bag-valve-mask,
suction unit, pulse-oximeter, is supplied by donations and fund raising
events. |
